Fall Bulky Waste Day - Oct. 21, 2023

Fall Bulky Waste Day, sponsored by the Franklin County Solid Waste District is scheduled for Oct. 21st from 9 a.m. to noon at the Mohawk Trail Regional High School parking lot.

Please check out the flyer for details and pricing.  Or check the FCSWMD website for other locations.

Please note: Mattresses and box springs are no longer accepted at this event. In 2022, the solid waste district worked with host towns to establish five permanent drop off locations for mattress recycling across the county. See this webpage for mattress recycling locations, pricing and hours: franklincountywastedistrict.org/mattress-recycling. Residents should call the District office at 413-772-2438 if they have questions or are unsure if their mattress and/or box spring can be recycled.

“Why attend?” Some transfer station attendants or town residents have asked why residents should know about or attend “Clean Sweep” Bulky Waste Day if their town transfer station also accepts bulky waste, scrap metal, e-waste, tires, Freon appliances, propane tanks, books, and textiles. Here are a few reasons:

  1. Potentially reduce labor, expenses, waste hauls, and traffic at your town’s transfer station.
  2. Bulky Waste Day accepts cash; not all transfer stations do.
  3. If a resident is doing a big clean out, it can be easy and convenient for them to load up a truck or trailer, then get help from event staff and volunteers in quickly unloading their materials into different waste and recycling streams. This is why the event was named “Clean Sweep.”
  4. The event at 3 locations offers a special, separate recycling program for Bulky Rigid Plastics; not all transfer stations have this recycling option (only certain items are acceptable: https://franklincountywastedistrict.org/files/Bulky_Rigid_Plastics_07-21.pdf).
