Buckland Rec needs YOUR help to rebuild our community pool!
The Buckland Recreation Area Pool was a place for our community to come together to be active, create community, and make memories for more than 50 years. When it was closed due to age-related system malfunctions at the end of the season in August 2016, the community was heartbroken. Not only did our community lose a treasured resource, with it went employment for local teens, programming for our summer camp, swimming lessons, water aerobics classes for elders, and an attractive feature for those who rent the pavilion for events.
After committing to continue the summer camp program the following year without the pool , the Town of Buckland and Buckland Recreation Committee members received some amazing news. An anonymous donor had given $500,000 to help rebuild this sorely missed community resource that offered so much to our community-- our pool.
Members of the committee got to work with architects and engineers to fully understand what it would cost to replace the pool, install new systems, and build a more functional pool house. Now we have a vision for a new and improved pool and poolhouse, but we need your help in making it become a reality.
In the meantime, the Rec Committee and Town of Buckland have installed a new playground, cleared the site, and started work on a new road and driveway. We've also made improvements to the old pool house which is now headquarters for the summer camp. There's a lot going on at Buckland Rec!
Many community members have stepped forward to help rebuild the pool, but we need EVERYONE's help to reach our goal.
Thanks to generous community members who recognize how important the pool is to our community's health and well being, we are already half way to our fundraising goal. We need to raise $400,000 to provide everyone with a fun, safe, and beautiful place to swim! You can donate to our campaign by making a tax-deductible gift to the Town of Buckland Pool fund.
You can send a check to Town Hall (with Pool fund in the memo line) at 17 State St, Shelburne Falls, MA 01370 or contact Cynthia Schwartz.
Stay tuned for community fundraising events too!
