Charlemont Road

From Upper Street to Avery Road

GEG Construction has been in Town repairing areas where the erosion control measures failed and pieces of the new pavement have become fragile and have broken off. The Buckland Highway Department will work with the contractors to make sure the repair work is complete and satistfactory.

In addition a new drainage inlet will be installed on Charlemont Road, just above Maynard Hill Road to capture run off that isn't making it to the existing inlet.

Also several driveway aprons will be completed this Spring.

History

The Town will reconstruct Charlemont Road from Upper Street to Avery Road and stabilize the culvert at Avery Road with funds received through the 2020 MassWorks Grant.

The $1 million MassWorks grant includes improvements to the drainage and preliminary engineering for a future culvert replacment.

Weston & Sampon has been contracted by the Town to complete the engineering work.

Construction is anticipated late summer of 2021.

The Town will apply for a second grant through the Department of Ecological Restoration (DER) for funding to complete the engineering to replace the culvert and a third grant though the Municipal Vulnerability Prepardness program for the culvert replacment itself.

The total estimated cost of work is $3.5 million.
